For one-year-olds, spoken language, identity of self and others and social activities (involving other family members and friends) are in focus. These books are durable and have plenty of pictures and simple stories. Humor is beginning to be important, as well as elements of surprise. In this phase we also introduce books which are interactive, for example books with sounds, opening windows, pop-up elements, and so on.
